The company was founded in 2015 by the two sisters Basak Onay and Oyku Thurston, who both grew up in Tokyo, Barcelona and Los Angeles – away from their hometown Istanbul. So, throughout their lives, they've been influenced by many cultures and different local crafts. It motivated them to create their own business and return to their Turkish roots.
All BORNN's products are produced in Istanbul by local artisans, and care is taken to strengthen the small community by developing new production techniques while making use of their many years of knowledge and tradition for this particular craft.
